Hotline city is a beautiful game. The art and music fits the theme well, it feels polished and well built, and it's actually really fun to play. There are, however, a few problems with the game. The first and probably the most disturbing is the moral of the game.
In the game, you have to storm many buildings in a single night, killing hundreds of innocent souls, including beating one to death with your bare hands. Couldn't it have been like... laser tag or something?
Besides that disturbing aspect of the game the other problem is the lack of content. There are only 6 levels in the game, and while they get rather hard towards the end, it still only took me 20 minutes to beat the game. Which is fine, it's a nice demo, just not a very in-depth game. The developers could have really taken an extra week or something and added 30 levels without too much trouble. Doing so would flesh it out and transform it from a project into a game.
But, besides those two problems, the game is awesome. The graphics are smooth, there aren't any major bugs, and the AI is relatively competent. There are a few different gun types in the game, each with different ammo amounts, damage, and fire rate.
The AI is rather primitive, it can walk towards the player if it has a bat, and shoot if it has a gun. The range is too small, if gunshots rang out, they should at least come look to see what's wrong or take cover, instead they just stand there. Some other bug is if you open a door behind them and shoot one of their friends, they don't seem to care. Even if you walk in literally pixels away from the AI, they don't shoot.
In conclusion, Hotline city is an awesome game with a few issues, bugs, and the general concept of the game is just wrong. There is also some blood in the game, so I would say this game is for mature audiences only, or you might get nightmares...
