Minecraft: Surviving Your First Night (Minecraft Review #3)

Updated: Apr 12, 2022

(We publish a Minecraft review every day, except for weekends.)

If you want to learn more about Minecraft, check out our other Minecraft reviews.

In Minecraft, you can create your world in Survival Mode and Creative Mode. This review will cover all the aspects of Survival Mode. If you want to learn to play Creative Mode, check out the review called Minecraft: Build Your Dreams in Creative Mode.

Once you create your survival world, you will hopefully be near some trees. Go over to the trees and break the wood. The leaves will slowly decay and drop saplings. These can be planted and will eventually grow into trees.

Open your inventory once you have some wood. See the 2 by 2 grid in the upper right corner? Put logs in one slot and click the output to collect planks. Put a plank in each slot and click the output to make a crafting table. This will be your best friend in your survival world. Place down your crafting table. If you're in Java, click the book icon to have access to anything you can make with your current items. If you're on Bedrock, click the button at the top that shows a book and a chest. You will also have access to anything you can craft with your current items. Just click it, and it will put it in the crafting grid for you. All you have to do is click the output grid to make it.

Days in Minecraft last 8 minutes, so maybe go murder some sheep for wool, which you can use to make a bed. If not, dig a hole and cover it. Hide in there and periodically check if it's day. Night is dangerous. There are zombies, skeletons that shoot you, spiders, creepers that blow you up, and more.

Once it's day, you might wanna collect some food. Maybe some wood for a house, too. Once you're done making your shelter, go mining. Start by digging a staircase. If you're on Java, press F3 to see your coordinates. If you're on Bedrock, enable Show Coordinates. The middle coordinate tells you how high up or down you are. This will be very helpful for mining. Subscribe to the site and check out our other Minecraft reviews, including one on mining.
